March 18, 2025 – Sentro 1771, Estancia, Pasig City. The Philippine Paint and Coatings Association, Inc. (PPCAI) successfully held its first General Membership Meeting (GMM) for 2025. The event brought together over 45 participants, representing 32 member-companies from both the supplier and manufacturing sectors. The gathering not only provided an avenue for members to reconnect and enjoy Filipino modern cuisine but also facilitated in-depth discussions on key industry developments, regulatory updates, and upcoming initiatives.

PPCAI President Reggie Yu (Times Paint) opened the meeting by warmly welcoming the participants and expressing his gratitude for their time and presence, despite the traffic and inconvenience. He acknowledged the members' unwavering support and commitment to the association’s initiatives. In his remarks, Reggie provided an overview of the industry updates since the last GMM, highlighting recent developments, ongoing regulatory challenges, and the association’s proactive efforts to address them. He also expressed his optimism and determination to end the board’s second and final year with a bang, encouraging everyone to actively engage in the upcoming projects and events that will define the association’s impact in 2025.

One of the meeting's highlights was the comprehensive update on the Household/Urban Hazardous Substances (HUHS) regulatory landscape. Diosdado Cheng (DKSH), Chairman of the HUHS Task Force, delivered an insightful presentation on the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Administrative Order (AO) 2019-0019. The order governs the regulation of establishments engaged in refilling activities of HUHS products, requiring stricter compliance measures. Chair Dado underscored the importance of adherence to safety standards and the continuous collaboration between industry stakeholders and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and consumer protection.

Engr. Catherine Ramirez, Research and Development Manager of Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines, Inc., presented the latest updates from the Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Product Standards (DTI-BPS), specifically the Technical Committee on Paints and Varnishes (TC-25). She outlined recent technical revisions and standard enhancements aimed at aligning local industry practices with global benchmarks. Engr. Ramirez emphasized the significance of industry-wide cooperation in upholding product quality, safety, and sustainability standards.

Director Sam Conan Chua (Chemisol) delivered the latest membership updates, highlighting the steady growth and engagement of the PPCAI community. On behalf of Jonathan Bangayan (H-Chem), Chua also shared updates on several exciting projects, including the President’s Golf Cup Tournament on March 27, which promises to be a landmark event fostering camaraderie and fundraising for PPCAI initiatives. He also announced the proposed bloodletting project in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross, aimed at promoting health advocacy and social responsibility. Additionally, he detailed the Christmas Party Raffle, where a brand-new car and multiple motorcycles are up for grabs, generating enthusiasm and anticipation among members.

Director Alix Reyes (Chemrez) detailed the association’s upcoming sports and social events, presenting a dynamic lineup of activities scheduled every month until the year’s end. These initiatives aim to enhance member engagement, foster camaraderie, and strengthen the association’s sense of community. Director Alix encouraged active participation, highlighting how these events would provide valuable networking opportunities while promoting health and wellness.

Director Lynette Palma (RedaChem) presented significant updates on PPCAI’s digital presence, including enhancements to the association’s website and online platforms. She outlined plans to improve the user experience, streamline access to resources, and boost online visibility, ensuring that members stay informed and connected with the latest industry news and events.

A major announcement was made by Vice-President Patrick Negrete (Boysen), who confirmed that the much-anticipated Paint Technology Course (Part 1) will be held sometime in May 2025. This educational initiative aims to elevate technical competencies across the industry by providing participants with in-depth knowledge on paint formulation, application techniques, and quality control standards. VP Pat encouraged members to enroll early, emphasizing the course’s value in professional development and industry excellence.

Treasurer Carl Hu (Amstar) presented the financial report, highlighting the association’s sound fiscal standing and prudent financial management. He emphasized the importance of sustained membership support and sponsorships to fund PPCAI’s initiatives, ensuring the association's continued growth and influence within the industry.

The first GMM of 2025 not only marked a promising start to the year but also reaffirmed PPCAI’s unwavering commitment to fostering collaboration, advocating for industry interests, and promoting excellence.

Director Alix Reyes closed the meeting by thanking all the participants once again for their valuable contributions and reaffirming the association's mission to drive meaningful impact in the paint and coatings sector.
