Paint Playoff: A Smash Hit at the 2024 PPCAI Badminton Tournament

Quezon City, July 13, 2024 – The air was electric as 53 players from 17 companies converged at the Centro Atletico for the highly-anticipated Philippine Paint and Coatings Association (PPCAI) Badminton Tournament, aptly named the "Paint Playoff." Under the expert direction of Alix Reyes, Chairperson of the Sports Committee, the event unfolded in a spirit of camaraderie and fierce competition, showcasing some of the finest badminton talent in the industry.


Tournament Structure


The tournament followed a round-robin format across five categories: Non-Gender B, Mixed Doubles C, Women's C, Men's C, and Non-Gender D. Players faced strict adherence to rules, including a mandatory 5-10 minute court time before defaulting, with matches played to 31 points, ensuring fast-paced action and strategic play. The competition's intensity was heightened by the absence of deuces and a unique tie-breaking system that emphasized head-to-head results and point differentials.

Outstanding Performances


The day was filled with thrilling matches, but a few standout teams rose above the competition:


Non-Gender B:


Champions: Kelsey Minard Rosales and Ariadne Arlene Denzon (Chemrez) delivered a stellar performance, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and resilience. They faced tough opponents throughout the day but ultimately clinched the title.


1st Runner-Up: Ace Mameng and Dado Cheng (DKSH) fought valiantly, while 2nd Runner-Up Paul Madriaga and Prince Mark Orbong (Chemrez) showcased commendable skill but fell short in crucial moments.


Mixed Doubles C:


In an exhilarating final, Arlene Denzon (Chemrez) teamed up with Mckeizer Andrew Oyales to claim the championship, outmaneuvering strong competition. The pair's synergy was undeniable as they powered through the rounds.


1st Runner-Up: Ron Rivera (Berakah Waters) partnered with Ariadne Arlene Denzon, while 2nd Runner-Up Eden Ramos and Ace Mameng (DKSH) displayed tenacity but could not secure the win.


Women’s C:


A thrilling showdown saw Alix Reyes and Jazel Valencia (Chemrez) emerge victorious, proving their dominance in the category. Their strategic plays and coordination were key to their success.


1st Runner-Up: The dynamic duo of Arielle and Ariadne Arlene Denzon (Chemrez) kept the pressure on, while 2nd Runner-Up Rebecca Salamatin and Mylene Ricaborda (Asian Coatings) showcased commendable skills but couldn't outlast the champions.


Men’s C:


The championship match featured an intense battle, but Prince Mark Orbong and Jerome Andrei Onia (Chemrez) rose to the occasion, sealing their victory with precise shots and solid teamwork.


1st Runner-Up: Bong Eugenio and Aljur Rodriguez (Century) pushed hard for the win, while 2nd Runner-Up Ron Rivera and Jerrod Craie Rivera (Pioneer) displayed great sportsmanship.


Non-Gender D:


Leonardo Ramos and Diosdado Cheng (DKSH) captured the title with a well-executed strategy and teamwork that left their opponents in the dust.


1st Runner-Up: Jenny Berry and Janile Canillo (Asian Coatings) showed remarkable resilience, while 2nd Runner-Up Meynard Mendoza and Christina Pedrasa (Nippon) exhibited great effort but ultimately fell short.


Sportsmanship Award:


Clarwinson Espejon of Pacific Paint has been honored with the Century Chemicals Sportsmanship Award for his exceptional conduct during the recent badminton tournament. This award recognizes Clarwinson's commitment to fair play, teamwork, and exemplary sportsmanship, embodying the true spirit of the game.
